We’ve seen some pretty unusual names over the course of our blogging careers, but we’d be remiss to say that SPTMBR 8TH’s isn’t one of the most unique ones we’ve ever encountered. And while we’re not sure whether the name doubles as anything other than the alias it represents, we’re pleased to announce that UK-native’s sound lives up to the intrigue of his ever-mysterious moniker.
Virgo is the debut work from the individual, released in collaborative fashion by Trapdoor Records and Darker Than Wax, and it’s a four-track EP with influences that range from garage and house, to trap, bass, and R&B. Aaliyah’s “One In A Million” is sampled to slowed perfection on the opening effort (one of our two favorites from the EP listed below), and “Lxve” follows with a bit more of somber-but-bassy vibe. “8th”, our other favorite from the four efforts, comes next, and with it, a house-themed anthem that builds before breaking down into spotty synths and garage-like percussion. The ecclectic “I Need” rounds out the EP with pulsating bass and diversified work on the drums, capturing Virgo‘s eccentricty in full force while retaining the intrigue SPTMBR 8TH affords us through the very nature of his name.
You can catch our aforementioned favorites below, and if you’re feeling the vibes, you can check out the entire project for whatever price you’re willing to pay by traveling to the related Bandcamp page HERE.
