At first glance Crystal Fighters might not make your favorite kind of music, but we implore you to give them a chance because their sophomore album Cave Rave is a must own for the Summer months. It took us a solid week of digesting this album before we finally opened up to it, so we are confident you might take the same path.

You could characterize Crystal Fighters’ music as light-hearted, fun and enjoyable from all angles of perspective and tastes. Their music is good for gatherings, bbq’s, porch hangouts or mid to summer night transitions.

Chairman Maf – 1976

As that expression goes (we will paraphrase here): there are sometimes needles in the hay-stack and sometimes there are huge sticks in that hay-stack — Chairman Maf is one of those huge sticks. Basically what we are saying here is that Mr. Maf sticks out massively in the world of hip-hop production (if we didn’t make that clear enough for you). We have been following along with Maf’s beats for quite sometime now, so when he hit us up yesterday about his new beat project, 1976, we were pretty excited.

1976 is 16 tracks deep full of soul-injected hip-hop beats. If you’re a fan of this kind of music, hearing 1976 is as important as turning your TV OFF! Allow this album to give you some much needed humanity this weekend while you do the things you love.

Like the Ancient Astronauts, beat-wizard, Kabanjak (who is actually .5 of AA) has also been pretty quiet for the last few years (go figure). So like we told you to get back on the bandwagon with AA, you best do the same with Kabanjak because he’s back. “5 Minutes” is statement on the comeback with it’s incessant hip-hop grooves and choice samples. Give this song your full-attention and ride through all of it because eventually the wood-winds will kick in and you’ll be locked.

Little Children – “Falling”

If you read the Artist and Track Title all the way through as a sentence (Little Children Falling) you may imagine the sharp blood chilling, hair-raising cries that follow such an act. Well we can ensure you that the is exactly the opposite sound, feeling, and reaction that you’ll have when you listen to Little Children’s “Falling”. The Swedish group have created a lullaby for adults which will soothe you straight to the bone.

Visit their soundcloud page for more calming downtempo indie-folk, though Falling is almost definitely their best work yet and hopefully a sign of things to come as Little Children look to make their name in 2013.

Jaaska – “Midnight Heroes”

Jaaska is one of the most interesting producers we have ever come across — his beats sound like nothing else you have ever heard before. We picture Jaaska making beats on some dark and dingy space station gaining his inspiration to make beats from the insanity that comes from being stuck in the middle of space with no one to talk to. It’s like he bottles his craziness into his production and for this we can’t get enough of the way he makes us feel.

This all started with his outstanding track, “Crystal (साहसिक कार्य)” and now our amazement gets pushed further with his newest output, “Midnight Heroes”. Leave the words behind and travel inside the mind-blowing arena of this one. Download below for free.

Phebe Starr – Zero EP

Fitting right in to that new-wave of female pop-vocalists, is the Australian singer/songwriter Phebe Starr who has officially released her debut EP, Zero. The EP features the previously heard “Alone With You” & “Jurrasica”. Both of these songs were hits and the other two songs we find on this EP are equally as good. “Young Hearts” is one of the two songs we have never heard until now, and we gotta say, the proof is in the pudding here because she absolutely kills this song.

Unfortunately the EP is only available on AUS itunes right now, but thankfully you can stream all of the EP on Soundcloud for now!

SomeKindaWonderful – “Reverse”

Sometimes the voice of the lead vocalist instantly captivates you, in the case of this fantasic song from LA’s SomeKindaWonderful, the vocals from lead singer (name unknown) immediately pulls you in the emotion of the song. “Reverse” is the kind of song that will perk your attention in more ways that one.

This is the band’s debut single and is a very good start, so hit up their social networks and give them a follow because chances are pretty good that this band has more goodness up its sleeves.

FMLYBND – “Electricity”

First impressions are so important these days in music — with everything coming out at a feverish pace, you really need a good reason to keep up with all these bands. One small slip up on a sub-par song and the next time that band releases something, you won’t be so inclined to have the same hunger as before.

That being said, the Santa Barbara band FMLYBND is definitely starting off on the right foot with their debut single “Electricity”. It’s features a bombardment of 80′s synths with accentual guitars and big-room drums. It’s got just enough ‘catchiness’ to have you coming back for more. Stream it below.

Sure for all you producer and artists who know all the tricks this may seem like a yawn-fest, but for those of us who don’t care to know the details, it’s a gold mine of aural sounds.
